Ever since the early days of Molten Core, when I was just a baby warlock, I have gazed in admiration and puzzlement at one of the members of the tripod of raiding – the healer.
Back then, one of my friends had started playing. He leveled a dwarf priest(back when fear ward was a racial only, and useful in BWL), and joined us for some hardcore MC raidin’. He passed trial of course, while outhealing all of the member healers, impressing everybody, and being an all-around badass guy.
Then, at some point, he was asked to respec shadow for one night, since we were lacking dpsers. His first comment, on each and every boss fight of the night, was “wow, so THAT’s what this looks like”.
You see, back then there was no grid. A screenshot of his UI in a raid had 40 bars filling up 2 thirds of his screen, and bars of manapots and different ranks of spells on the rest.
So what puzzles me nowadays is that, even with grid, compact raid bars, action bars, and no downranking, healers STILL get tunnel vision.
Who causes a wipe on Mimiron because they get a rocket targeted at them and doesn’t move on time?
Healers.
Who panics when the canon starts casting laser barrage, and die staring at missiles that they could have avoided just by strafing to the right?
Healers.
Who gets mark of the faceless and runs through the whole raid, with Vezax at 15%?
…well, a caster. But my point still stands.
It took us 25 wipes to down Mimiron. I’m really shocked and astonished, since I assumed we’d need at least twice that. But at the same time, I’m completely sure that we could’ve done it in 15. (3 were those special “hah I’m at 2% in p4 and look somebody died while I was getting ready to cast laser barrage so I’m just going to bug the fuck out and cast it in the whole room at the same time haha” kind of wipes.)
Now, I know you all want to jump and kill me for daring to blaspheme. But fuck it. I cast my spells with the boss targeted, and I can run out of red shit. I can’t see how having a different target and casting healing spells instead of damaging spells can magically take away my fire dodging superpowers.
But hey, 12/14 bosses in one week’s worth of raiding isn’t bad at all, if I can say so myself. Plus, on the bright side, Yogg does not have fire that kills you. He just has clouds of green shit that spawn mobs when you stand in them. MANY WHELPS. LEFT SIDE.
One more thing to rage about. Thank you Blizzard.
